BEAUTIFUL. POWERFUL. LOVE.
Inspiration To Fuel Your Journey Through Healing And Transformation
We Pour Libations...
Pouring libations is an ancient tradition that is present within and yet predates the Abrahamic religions of the world (you know, the big three - Christianity, Judaism, and Islam). This act of pouring liquid offerings finds it’s origins in Kemet (ancient Egypt) and is prevalent in indigenous spiritual traditions throughout the continent of Africa. It’s purpose can be to cool and heal, ignite and purify, or nourish and fuel depending on what is poured, like water, liquor, or oil to name a few.
Back in October, we hosted the first Beautiful. Powerful. Love: Celebrate! event at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute to honor and celebrate our Ancestral Mothers through music and dance performances from across the African Diaspora.
We opened the event with two African traditional spiritual practitioners, Mark Ifeoluwa Lilly and Iya Omitosin Fayemi, pouring libations with prayer spoken in Yoruba.
Inspiring healing and transformation is the purpose of the Beautiful. Powerful. Love. event series as well as the book it is based on: From Fat, Black, and Unlovable to Beautiful. Powerful. Love..
